Bon Secours Mercy Health is seeking an ED Tech to provide direct patient care under the supervision of an RN or designated healthcare professional. You will perform routine patient care tasks, assist with mobility, document care in EPIC, and participate in handoffs and room turnover.

Ideal candidates hold a High School Diploma or GED, with BLS preferred and state EMR/EMT/MEDICAL ASSISTING certifications or STNA required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• BLS Basic Life Support preferred on hire; must obtain prior to direct patient care.
• Current certification per state requirements for EMR/EMT/Medical Assisting preferred; STNA required or in nursing school.

Responsibilities

THIS IS A COLLECTIVE BARGAINING UNIT POSITION

Primary Function/General Purpose Of Position

The ED Tech provides direct patient care under the guidance of an RN or designated healthcare professional in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, and within the policies, procedures, and guidelines of Bon Secours Mercy Health.

Essential Job Functions

• Provides basic patient care and tasks to include, but not limited to, care and comfort, vital sign measurement, personal care and hygiene, assists with mobility, performs lab draws, ECG’s, basic wound care, and other unit-based specialty duties under the direction of an RN.
• Arrive the patient in EPIC. Verify patient information. Place the wristband on the patient.
• Completes patient rounding as assigned.
• Provides 1:1 patient safety companion service as needed.
• Acts as liaison between patient and nurse to report changes and concerns.
• Provides high‑level customer service to all patients, patient's families, community providers, visitors, and employees.
• Provides accurate, precise, timely documentation as applicable to patient care.
• Participates in handoff report of pertinent information regarding patient and departmental needs upon arrival and when leaving.
• Performs delegated tasks once competency has been validated.
• Promotes quality and safety by seeking to continually improve the processes and systems to enhance patient care delivery.
• Demonstrates the ability to work independently, problem solve, and be able to resolve conflict while working under considerable stress.
• Maintains knowledge of policies and procedures.

Licensing/Certification

• BLS Basic Life Support (preferred upon hire, must obtain from the approved source prior to direct patient care)
• Current certification per state requirements for Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Medical Assisting (preferred), STNA (required) or be in nursing school

Education

High School Diploma or GED (required)

Work Experience

Previous experience working as a Patient Care Tech, within a nursing support role or previous healthcare experience or second-year nursing student from a Registered Nurse (RN) program (preferred)

Patient Population

• Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his or her age, specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures.
• Neonates (0-4 weeks)

Working Conditions

• Periods of high stress and fluctuating workloads may occur.
