Overview

Boston Medical Center – South is looking for a dedicated Nursing Assistant to support Registered Nurses in delivering high‑quality patient care. The role involves assisting with daily patient activities, mobility, hygiene, nutrition, documentation, and basic medical procedures under RN direction.

Responsibilities

• Perform all patient care activities under the direction of a Registered Nurse, including greeting ambulances, taking and recording vital signs, performing EKGs, and assisting with procedures.
• Provide patient hygiene and nutrition, feed patients as required, and assist with bathing and toileting.
• Make rounds on a group of assigned patients, stock supplies, and manage transfers to Med/Surg units.
• Assist in cleaning patient care equipment and disposing of trash and linen continuously.
• Maintain a safe and comfortable environment by helping patients with bed mobility, orienting them to call lights and side rails, and using cough pillows for restless patients.
• Document vital signs, intake/output, and other medical data in the appropriate electronic medical record (EMR).
• Assist with specimen collection, including phlebotomy, and support the RN during admissions, transfers, and discharges.
• Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as partial bed baths, sit baths, and shower assistance, and manage patient nourishment.
• Maintain knowledge of and comply with infectious disease policies, including proper handling of patients on precautions and disposal of infectious materials.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Prior Nursing Assistant experience required; nursing students with one completed clinical rotation accepted.
• Computer skills required; knowledge of Meditech preferred.
• Certification or licensure: CNA license preferred; BLS required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred; phlebotomy skills preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations required for treatment protocols.
• Physical ability to lift, transfer, and move patients.
