Job summary

McLaren Health Care is seeking a patient care assistant to support the emergency department team. Under direct supervision, you will assist nurses and physicians, restock supplies, collect specimens, and help with admissions and discharges during 12-hour night shifts from 6:00pm to 6:30am.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.
Six months patient care experience in a health care delivery setting OR completion of the US Armed Services medic program.
Certification as an EMT, paramedic, medical assistant (MA), or certified nursing assistant (CNA) OR currently enrolled Nursing student who has completed their first Med/Surg rotation.

Responsibilities

Provides direct and indirect patient care, assisting nursing and physician staff with patient care procedures.
Inventories and restocks emergency department equipment.
Collects and transports specimens such as urine, blood, and cultures.
Assists with the admission and discharge of patients, initiates and discontinues intravenous lines, cleans and prepares examination room between patients.
Places patients on monitors, provides wound care, assists with orthopedic procedures and other emergency room procedures as requested.
Reports and records observations in the patient medical record.
Reports patient care needs and changes in condition to the nursing staff.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
