Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Uptown is seeking a Nurse Supervisor to lead the Emergency Department's day-to-day operations, align with organizational goals, and manage staffing, budget and quality initiatives.

The role requires RN licensure in Texas, BLS, and 3+ years of acute emergency or critical care nursing with leadership experience; the supervisor collaborates with physicians and hospital leaders to deliver patient‑centered care.

Qualifications

  • Three (3) or more years of acute emergency services or critical care nursing
  • Progressive leadership experience preferred
  • Current licensure in Texas as a Registered Nurse
  • Current BLS through American Heart Association required
  • Board Certification in leadership, critical care, or emergency nursing preferred

  • Provides an experience and environment of patient and family centered care
  • Creates and maintains a satisfying workplace that fosters professional growth and job satisfaction
  • Develops and implements recruitment and retention strategies that support a culture of leadership
  • Determines the qualifications and competencies of the personnel who provide patient care services
  • Directs the quality assurance and process improvement activities, and ensures compliance with patient care practice standards
  • Continually assesses and improves the performance of the services provided
  • Collaborates with hospital personnel and physicians to ensure optimal patient care
  • Promotes a positive working environment in the department and hospital
  • Ensures services maintain compliance with the standards of practice for the department as well as regulatory and/or accreditation agencies
  • Identifies cost‑effective systems needed to support the business of the department taking into account business trends, resource availability and changes in customers
  • Establishes effective working relationships with all constituencies including patients, physicians, employees, volunteers and vendors
  • Collaborates with Senior Management in meeting facility goals
  • Takes patient assignments as needed to meet census demands and fluctuations

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Uptown is a joint venture surgical hospital between Baylor Scott & White Health (BSWH), United Surgical Partners International (USPI), and local physicians. Baylor Scott & White Medical Center-Uptown provides a wide range of medical and surgical services for the greater North Texas area across 8 ORs, 24 private inpatient rooms, and a full-service ED. The hospital specializes in both inpatient and outpatient procedures in orthopedics, joint replacement, spine, general, bariatrics, surgical oncology, ENT, reconstructive surgery, and other surgical specialties.

The Supervisor is responsible for the direction and leadership, operational, financial, programmatic and personnel activities for the Emergency Department. This includes establishing, meeting and continuously monitoring the goals and objectives while maintaining alignment with the strategic goals and objectives of the organization. While the range of duties and responsibilities is broad and varied, the position’s major responsibilities are directing the day-to‑day operations, financial management, and human resource management. The supervisor works with a variety of leaders, coordinating activities across the organization.
