Job summary

Stony Brook Medicine is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Emergency Department who will assess patients, develop care plans, administer care and medications, and participate in quality assurance. The role requires NY RN licensure, BLS/ACLS/PALS, and telemetry/critical care experience, with TNCC due within 3–6 months of hire.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current license to practise as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN).
• Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• ACLS certification from the American Heart Association.
• PALS certification from the American Heart Association.
• Telemetry/Critical Care experience mandatory.
• TNCC certification required within three to six months of hire.
• 1–2 years emergency department/critical care experience.

Responsibilities

• Assess the patient’s condition and coordinate nursing care with other health disciplines involved in treatment.
• Develop a written individualized care plan including teaching needs and discharge planning.
• Administer direct care when professional nursing skills and judgment are needed.
• Administer medication.
• Practice infection control and maintain a clean, safe environment.
• Assumes responsibility for delivery of nursing care and communicates changes to Charge RN/Clinician.
• Develops and maintains current plan of care; set priorities with patient and family.
• Documents patient/family teaching and responses in the medical record.
• Communicates and works effectively with other staff and departments.
• Participates in unit/hospital quality assurance activities.
