Job summary

Stony Brook Medicine is seeking a Registered Nurse (T&R C) for the Emergency Department on a full-time night shift. The RN will assess patients, create care plans, administer medications, and coordinate with the care team to ensure quality outcomes.

The role requires NY RN licensure (or eligibility), with preferred Bachelor’s in Nursing and acute care experience; candidates with acute care experience will have RN1 counted. Shift is 1900–0730 with potential varied pass days.

Qualifications

• Possession of or eligibility for a license to practice as a registered nurse in New York State.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and at least one year of previous hospital acute care experience.
• Only licensed nurse experience in an acute care facility will be counted towards RN1 experience.

Responsibilities

• Assess the patient’s condition and nursing needs; coordinate nursing care activities with other health disciplines involved in the treatment effort to relate and integrate the nursing regimen with the treatment plan for patients.
• Develop a written individualized care plan which includes teaching needs and discharge planning.
• Administer direct care when professional nursing skills and judgment are needed.
• Administer medications.
• Practice infection control and maintain a clean and safe environment.
• Communicates changes in patient’s condition and questions regarding patient care to Charge RN/Clinician.
• Develops and maintains current written plan of care for assigned patients; sets priorities and goals with patient/family.
• Provides documented evidence in the medical record of patient/family teaching and responses.
• Communicates and works effectively with other staff and departments.
• Participates in unit or hospital based quality assurance activities or committees.
