Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health seeks a Patient Care Associate (PCA) for the Emergency Department at Trinitas Regional Medical Center, Elizabeth, NJ, day shift. The PCA assists nursing staff with patient care tasks, vital signs, and routine diagnostic prep in a high-volume ED setting.

Requirements include a HS diploma or GED, BLS, phlebotomy certification within 6 months, and nursing-related coursework. Full-time with orientation and rotating weekends preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED are required.
• BLS certification through American Heart Association is required.
• Phlebotomy certification within 6 months of employment is required.
• Completion of related technical education course is required.
• On-the-job training or Fundamentals in Nursing course is required.
• Ability to perform all nursing assistant competencies.

Responsibilities

• Participate in patient care interventions and personal care procedures for patients.
• Perform approved dressings and wound care.
• Participate in nutritional activities.
• Assist with personal hygiene.
• Assist with ambulation.
• Assist with bowel and bladder elimination.
• Provide such additional care as required to meet the personal needs and comfort of assigned patients.
• Determine, prepare and set up medical supplies and equipment for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
• Prepare patients for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to include obtaining specimens, taking vital signs and measurements, positioning patients and attaching equipment leads to specific body locations.

Education

High School Diploma or GED

BLS Certification (American Heart Association)

Phlebotomy certification within 6 months

Completion of related technical education course

On-the-job training / Fundamentals in Nursing

Familiar with Fundamentals in Nursing

One year of nursing assistant experience (preferred)
