Job summary

Halifax Health is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Deltona Emergency Department to support nurses stations and patient areas. Responsibilities include phlebotomy, patient transport, and direct para-professional nursing care across newborn to geriatric patients.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED, and current BLS certification within 7 days of hire. Effective communication and basic computer skills are essential to collaborate with staff and ensure timely patient care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required.
• Current certification in BLS within 7 days of hire.
• Ability to communicate effectively and maintain composure in stressful situations.
• Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
• Basic computer skills or ability to learn and use hospital computer.
• Effective communication skills with unit staff and other departments.
• Must complete orientation requirements: general hospital orientation and unit-specific orientation.

Responsibilities

• Provides care for newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
• Performs patient assessments in an appropriate and timely fashion.
• Transports patients within the hospital in a safe and timely manner.
• Draws blood samples and prepares them for testing according to hospital policy.
• Obtains and documents patient vital signs and assists with monitoring devices.
• Assists with resuscitation/CPR and emergency procedures within scope of practice.
• Collaborates with patients, family, and Team Members to establish interventions and goals.
• Maintains certifications and education requirements of the department and Halifax Health.
• Assists with orienting and precepting new Team Members, students and volunteers.
