Job summary

Wellstar Kennestone Hospital in the United States is seeking an Emergency Department Command Center Tech for FT Nights to manage EMS communications and coordinate hospital response under the ED Patient Flow Coordinator. Responsibilities

• Communicates with pre-hospital providers (EMS, Fire, Police).
• Documents EMS communications in the designated tool.
• Relays order requests from EMS to the ED Physician and coordinates with the physician.
• Notifies the Patient Flow Coordinator if immediate hospital response is needed.
• Coordinates bed assignment with nursing and blocks beds on the ED board for EMS patients.
• Enters pre-hospital information into the EMR including EMS data.
• Maintains logs and reports as directed by policy and regulations.
• Provides summary reports to EMS Coordinator or ED leadership.

Job Summary: Emergency Department Command Center Tech (FT Nights) Manages communications from prehospital providers for Wellstar Emergency Departments (ED). Effectively coordinates hospital response to the needs of the pre-hospital patient under the direction of the ED Patient Flow Coordinator and EMS Coordinator.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

• Communicates with pre-hospital providers (Emergency Medical Services, Fire Departments, Police)
• Document EMS communications in designated communication tool
• Relay order requests from EMS providers to the ED Physician. Advocate for the pre-hospital patient. Coordinate direct communication with physician when indicated or requested.
• Notifies Patient Flow Coordinator when the pre-hospital patients condition warrants a response from the hospital before they arrive. Activation of teams, clearing of rooms, security response, and escalation of orders.
• Obtain enough information from incoming EMS units to
• Coordinates patient bed assignment with nursing. Blocks beds on the ED tracking board for EMS patients as per Patient Flow Coordinator or designee. Maintains records as required by regulating agencies
• Enters pre-hospital information into the electronic medical record, to include EMS agency, patient age/sex, complaint, vitals, treatment provided, and special circumstances.
• Accepts EMS trip sheets for patients no longer in the ED. Forwards trip sheets to the appropriate patient care area.
• Communicates available resources to EMS providers and governmental agencies. Enter diversion status into Diversion Web Sites as directed by the ED Patient Flow Coordinator / ANM/ Manager/ or Director. Communicate diversion status directly to EMS via phone or automated system.
• Appropriately completes logs as directed. Logs include, but are not limited to the Trauma log book, diversion entries, incoming transfer referrals, hourly trauma diversion, ER to ER physician referrals, and STEMI alerts.
• Consult ED Physician/Patient Flow Coordinator on all potential diversion patients. Assumes responsibilities for other duties assigned by management
• Forwards concerns or questions about EMS delivery of care to the EMS Coordinator.
• Provides summary reports to the EMS Coordinator or ED leadership including number of EMS calls.
• Maintains paper supplies, work area, radio communication equipment.
• Maintains a clean EMS entrance. Cleans EMS backboards/equipment and maintains appropriate EMS linen levels. Maximize communication with the EMS community.
• Monitor local Fire/EMS radio frequencies in order to maintain awareness of what is going on in the community.
• Notify Patient Flow Coordinator about communication from Weather Radio or critical incidents in the community (mass casualty, potential HAZMAT, natural disasters, etc.) Uses mass notification programs to activate team responses for the following: * Trauma patients * HAZMAT, Plan Orange * Diversion status for EMS * Stroke patients/ stroke intervention patients * Disaster, Plan Delta
• Performs other duties as assigned
• Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Required Minimum Education:

• High School Diploma / GED General or Other / Certificate Nursing

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):

• BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor EMT-BASIC - EMT-BASIC or EMT-INT - EMT-Intermediate or EMT-ADV - EMT-Advanced or NREMT - NREMT or PARA - Paramedic

Required Minimum Experience:

Minimum 2 years in the pre-hospital arena or emergency department

Preferred Paramedic Certification and experience

Preferred Cardiac monitoring experience as a Paramedic

Preferred Experience as a 911 dispatcher preferred, PBX skill

Required Minimum Skills:

• Clear speaking voice, command of the English language, excellent phone communication skills, strong background in medical terminology, keyboard skills, ability to multi-task, superior customer service skills
