Job summary

City of Eugene is hiring Communications Specialists to operate at Central Lane 911 Communications Center in Eugene, OR. Roles include handling 911 and non-emergency calls, dispatching police, fire, and EMS, and advancing through a 2-tier training track to Communications Specialist 2.

Shifts are 10 hours, 24/7 coverage with a bilingual pay benefit up to 5% and comprehensive benefits. Applicants must meet minimum education and DPSST/EMD certifications.

Qualifications

  • One year work experience in a fast-paced environment with data entry experience.
  • High School diploma or GED; CPR, EMD, and DPSST certification within specified timelines.

Responsibilities

  • Answer 911 and non-emergency calls for police, fire, ambulance, and other requests.
  • Determine jurisdiction, dispatch appropriate units, and coordinate with responding agencies.
  • Maintain familiarity with local geography and roads to ensure accurate dispatching.
