Job summary

St. Mary's County Government is seeking an entry-level Public Safety Dispatcher to handle 911 calls, assess incidents, and dispatch appropriate agencies for the Sheriff’s Office. You will log all calls in the CAD system and coordinate with allied agencies daily.

The role requires knowledge of local geography, strong multi-tasking, and the ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts. A $1,500 sign-on bonus is offered, with a hiring salary of $52,874 and a full range up to $91,042 annually.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be 18+ years old.
• Three years or more of related experience or equivalent training.
• Must pass CritiCall examinations and typing tests.
• Pass hearing and vision exams and background checks.
• Able to work 12-hour rotating shifts including weekends/holidays.

Responsibilities

• Answer 911 emergency calls using call-taking procedures.
• Answer administrative lines and dispatch agencies.
• Receive and dispatch calls for the Sheriff’s Office.
• Evaluate requests and dispatch fire/EMS or law enforcement per protocol.
• Know local geography and use mapping tools for directions.
• Log all calls into the CAD system.
• Provide information to responding agencies.
• Use METERS/NCIC network for data checks.
• Maintain required certifications (ETC/EPD/EFD/EMD/NCIC/CPR).
• Perform other duties as assigned.
