Job summary

The City of Midwest City is seeking a Communications Specialist I – Dispatcher – 911 Operator in the Emergency Communications Department. The role involves receiving, analyzing, and dispatching messages to radio-equipped units across Police, Fire, and Ambulance services, and monitoring alarms.

Minimum high school diploma or equivalent with prior experience operating a two-way radio and computer terminal; OLETS certification preferred.

Qualifications

• HS grad or equiv. req. w/prev. exp. in operation of a two-way radio and a computer terminal with OLETS cert. pref.
• Must pass data entry test (min. 5500 keystrokes/hr) and in-depth background check, polygraph, drug screen and hearing test.
• Safety/security sensitive position; subject to pre-employment, reasonable suspicion and random drug/alcohol screening.

Responsibilities

• Receives, analyzes, and dispatches messages to radio-equipped units of Police, Fire & Ambulance depts.
• Monitors burglar and fire alarms.
