Job summary

Alachua County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Telecommunicator to receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls in the Combined Communications Center. You will provide pre-arrival instructions, enter data into CAD, and operate FCIC/NCIC and radio/teletype systems with precision.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate calm, clear communication, have typing proficiency of 35 CWPM, and complete required certifications within stated timeframes.

Qualifications

  • High School or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Must pass CritiCall pre-employment test.
  • Typing test with 35 CWPM or better.
  • Must complete assigned training for operation of positions with minimal supervision.
  • EMD, EFD, CPR, ETC certifications required/obtained.
  • FCIC/NCIC certification within six months of hire.
  • Florida 911 Public Safety Telecommunicator Certification within one year.
  • NIMS ICS courses as required by DHS.
  • NCMEC Dynamics and First Responders Course within one year.
  • Maintain Telecommunicator certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls.
  • Provide pre-arrival instructions to callers.
  • Enter data into a CAD system and operate associated radio/teletype equipment.
  • Evaluate situations and determine appropriate responses per SOPs.
  • Train for other positions as staffing requires.
  • Work under CCC Shift Supervisor and maintain confidentiality.
