Job summary

The Jamestown Police Department seeks a qualified Police Dispatcher to receive emergency and nonemergency requests, document locations and details, and coordinate with officers to prioritize responses. You will work at a communications console using headsets and radios, ensuring accurate information for incident management.

Able to type accurately, listen carefully, and communicate clearly by radio, you’ll support public safety operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; some vacancies provide training.
• Ability to type accurately and understand spoken information.
• Strong communication skills for radio and phone interactions.

Responsibilities

• Receive emergency and nonemergency requests for police assistance
• Document incident locations, suspect descriptions, vehicle details, and reported hazards
• Assign calls to available officers according to priority and agency procedures
• Monitor officer status, radio traffic, and requests for assistance
• Relay updates about changing incidents and potential safety concerns
• Conduct authorized records inquiries after training
• Coordinate with neighboring agencies and other emergency services
• Maintain incident records and safeguard restricted information
