Job summary

University of Utah on-campus dispatch is seeking a candidate to operate a multi-line telephone system, relay information to units, and log incident reports. You will interact with public and campus staff to assess situations and coordinate responses.

Qualifications

• Six months related experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience)
• the ability to speak concisely and distinctly
• demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and work under stressful conditions
• previous computer experience
• demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills required.

Responsibilities

• Answers incoming telephone calls on a multi-line telephone system.
• Disseminates all pertinent information to appropriate persons via telephone or two-way radio to facilitate transmission of information and/or answer questions.
• Contacts external agencies such as paramedic, fire, ambulance, animal control and police services to handle critical incidents.
• Assists public via telephone and in-person to assess situations and problems.
• Determines appropriate response and relays accurate information to appropriate units for response.
• Prioritizes incident reports and maintains an accurate log to meet Federal, State and University requirements.
• Inputs and retrieves pertinent information from a computerized database to assist University staff and the general public.
• Utilizes and complies with proper security and radio procedures.
• May be required to work closely with other dispatch centers.
• Patrols parking lots, checking permits and issuing citations for improper parking.
• Assists in providing motorist services to the University community and the public such as starting cars and directing to parking or buildings.
• Assists visitors and registered users of the campus parking system in understanding regulations and parking availability.
• Processes copies of issued citations and completes forms related to work performed during shift.
• Directs traffic in parking lots during events and University-wide activities.
• Impasses vehicles parked in tow-away zones or with excessive citations as per procedures.
