Job summary

The American Red Cross is seeking a part-time, on-call Emergency Communications Center (ECC) Representative (Dispatcher) to work in our New York, NY location. Shifts are variable—days, nights, weekend or overnight—with 8 hours per week.

Under supervision, you will coordinate dispatch and support volunteers and partners in daily operations. Minimum qualifications include a High School diploma and at least 3 years of related experience, plus strong communication and MS Office skills.

We are seeking a part-time, on-call Emergency Communications Center (ECC) Representative (Dispatcher) to work in our New York, NY location.

Position is 8 hours per week.

Shifts are variable--days, nights, weekend or overnight. Must have open, variable availability (will not work for someone with a full-time, 40 hours/week job).

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (Job Overview):

Under general supervision, the Emergency Communications Center Rep. coordinates and serves as a resource for daily operations of a program or service. Act as a liaison between program or service and its internal and external partners. Provide support, development and/or leadership guidance to all volunteers.

Specific Responsibilities:

• Coordinate telephone dispatch (taking calls from the public, fellow Red Cross employees, Red Cross volunteers, as well as fire/police/911 dispatchers).
• Coordinating emergency responses.
• Reporting and keeping detailed records of services and calls.

• Implement and coordinate the day-to-day functions that support program or service operations.
• Develop workable program or service implementation plans.
• Support leadership in coordinating casework activities.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Qualifications):

• Education: High School or equivalent required.
• Experience: Minimum 3 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.

PAY INFORMATION:

The salary range for this position is (New York): $25.50

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. The work environment will consist of moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phones and printers, light traffic). The employee must have the ability to work in a small cubicle and have the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time.
