Job summary

MedVet in Austin, TX is seeking an Emergency and Specialty Veterinary Assistant to join our fast-paced ER/ specialty team. You will move between cases, assist DVMs, and support patient care with monitoring, anesthesia, and lab work.

A collaborative, compassionate approach is essential for successful client communication and team care. The role requires prior veterinary experience, comfort with calculations, and flexibility to work additional hours as needed.

Qualifications

• Prior veterinary experience required; emergency experience desired.
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, CRI, unit conversions).
• Flexible with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather information as necessary.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment.
• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans and nursing care concerns.
• Provide client education including home care instructions and medications.
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house lab testing and prepare samples for outside lab testing.

What you’ll do:

• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing

Who you are:

• Prior veterinary experience required; previous emergency experience desired

• Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
