Emergency and Critical Care Veterinary Technician

Community Care Veterinary Specialists, in beautiful Gainesville, Florida, is a privately owned small animal specialty hospital in North Central Florida.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in Veterinary Medicine.
  • Knowledge of animal handling and nursing.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
  • Qualified candidates are excellent communicators and multi-taskers, who are able to work independently, and function as a part of a team. They should be detail oriented and able to provide exceptional patient care combined with professional client communication.
  • Must be able to lift 40lbs.
  • Basic knowledge of emergency medicine is preferred but not required.
  • CVT preferred but not required.
Duties
  • Professionalism: navigate interpersonal, digital, and oral correspondence with pet owners and referring veterinarians.
  • Possess the ability to coach and mentor lesser experienced colleagues
  • Administer medications, perform treatments per DVM instruction and accurately document necessary medical information.
  • Respond quickly and calmly to crises while maintaining a high standard of client and patient care.
  • Communication: Effectively and clearly communicate with DVMs, the needs of patients and owners in high stress situations.
  • Additional skills include: small animal restraint and handling; basic and advanced nursing care; mastered venipuncture and IV catheterization; ability to calculate and administer medications; lab sample handling and running in-house lab equipment; basic sedation and anesthesia monitoring; general knowledge of veterinary medicine, including basic knowledge of emergency medicine and procedures.
  • This position participates in weekend and holiday rotations.
  • Overnight and weekend differential applies for some shifts.
