Job Summary
As an EMC Test Technician II, you will serve as the hands-on operational core of HCT America’s testing laboratory, working entirely on-site. This critical role involves performing precise electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) tests and measurements in strict accordance with industry standards and internal laboratory procedures. You will be instrumental in bridging the gap between physical testing execution and compliance data collection, ensuring that all tested products meet the highest standards of accuracy. Beyond daily testing, you will maintain the integrity of our test environments and support the lab’s operational efficiency, helping the company maintain its competitive edge in regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
1. Test Execution & Setup
- Independently set up and run radiated and conducted emissions tests and immunity tests per FCC, CISPR, EN, and IEC 61000-4-x standards, following lab procedures and customer test plans.
- Review test standards and test plans before each project, and choose the correct test setup, equipment, cable layout, and DUT operating mode to make sure results are valid and repeatable.
- Operate a wide range of EMC test equipment and software, including EMI receivers, spectrum analyzers, LISNs, antennas, RF amplifiers, and ESD/EFT/surge generators.
2. Data & Reporting
- Record complete and accurate test data, setup photos, and test logs, and spot unusual, borderline, or failing results early so engineers can act quickly.
- Draft clear test reports that describe test conditions, results, and any deviations or anomalies, and revise them based on engineer feedback.
- Support compliance engineers with pre-compliance scans, troubleshooting, and simple mitigation trials to help find the root cause of failures.
- Keep test chambers, shielded rooms, and test equipment in good working order, report equipment issues right away, and track calibration due dates so tests are not delayed.
- Train and guide technicians on test setups, equipment use, and lab safety, and share practical tips that help the team work more efficiently.
- Perform other lab duties and project support tasks as assigned by management.
Qualification & Skills
- Must have minimum 2 years of direct, hands-on experience in an EMC Testing Laboratory.
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related technical field is preferred, but substantial relevant work experience will supersede degree requirements.
- Practical experience testing to FCC Part 15B and EN 55032/55035 standards.
- Basic understanding of electronics, RF, and grounding/shielding principles.
- Hands-on experience or academic coursework, projects with AUTOMOTICE EMC testing (STRONG PLUS), such as CISPR 25, ISO 11452 series is big plus.
- Familiarity with automotive/radio standards (ETSI EN 301 489, ISO 7637-2, CISPR 25) and chamber validation methods (NSA, sVSWR) are highly desirable but not required.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team with a proactive attitude.
- Eligibility to work in the U.S without restrictions or future need for sponsorship.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and reach for long periods while setting up EMC Lab.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move equipment, antennas, and DUTs up to 50 lbs. Heavier items are moved with a cart, lift, or team support.
- Exposure to RF energy, high-voltage test conditions, and moderate noise.
- Long periods of computer use for test software, data entry, and reports.
- Occasional overtime or schedule changes may be needed to meet customer deadlines.
