Job summary

MissionHires is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to join a defense-focused team building rugged embedded systems for RF, FPGA, and DSP applications in Austin, TX. You will develop and maintain embedded C software for microcontroller- and processor-based systems.

You will collaborate with hardware and firmware engineers, debug with lab equipment, and contribute to automated testing and CI-driven workflows to ensure high-quality products and ongoing system improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in related field or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of embedded C development experience.
• Strong debugging skills with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, spectrum analyzers, signal generators).
• Troubleshoot complex embedded hardware/software interactions.
• Experience with microcontroller/processor-based systems.
• Root-cause analysis and independent problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain embedded C software for MCU/processor-based systems.
• Debug and troubleshoot firmware and HW/SW interactions using lab equipment.
• Collaborate with FPGA, hardware, and systems engineers to improve product reliability.
• Contribute across product lifecycle: development, enhancements, sustaining engineering.
• Develop automated test solutions, scripts, and tools to validate functionality and performance.
• Perform root-cause analysis and drive corrective actions for defects.
• Support board bring-up, software integration, and hardware validation.
• Participate in code reviews and CI-driven workflows.
• Document designs, tests, and troubleshooting guides; support customer issues as needed.
