Job description

THIS IS AN ONSITE POSITION

Summary

Parabit Systems, Inc., a leader in security, access control, and self‑service technology solutions, is seeking a highly motivated and hands‑on Embedded Systems Engineer to design and develop innovative products from concept through production. This role is ideal for an engineer with a strong combination of hardware design, embedded firmware development, and system integration expertise who thrives in a fast‑paced product development environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the architecture, design, implementation, testing, and support of embedded electronic systems deployed in real‑world applications across multiple industries. This position requires a practical engineer who can move seamlessly between hardware design, firmware development, prototype validation, manufacturing support, and field troubleshooting while maintaining a strong focus on quality, reliability, cybersecurity, and product performance.

You will work closely with software developers, mechanical engineers, quality assurance, manufacturing, and service teams to deliver robust, reliable, and scalable products that meet customer and regulatory requirements.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of embedded hardware and firmware platforms for security, access control, sensing, and self‑service products.
  • Define system architecture, hardware interfaces, communication protocols, microcontroller configurations, power distribution, signal conditioning, and overall embedded platform design.
  • Design and develop embedded firmware using C/C++ for microcontroller‑based systems, including control logic, communications, diagnostics, and device management functionality.
  • Create electrical schematics, select components, perform engineering analysis, derating analyses, and conduct design reviews to ensure reliability, performance, and manufacturability.
  • Provide instruction and guidance on necessary PCB layout requirements.
  • Develop, test, and validate hardware and firmware designs throughout the product development lifecycle.
  • Conduct hardware bring‑up debugging, and root‑cause analysis of system‑level issues.
  • Review PCB layouts with emphasis on signal integrity, grounding, EMI/EMC mitigation, thermal management, power integrity, and design‑for‑manufacturing best practices.
  • Implement secure coding principles and follow cybersecurity requirements in accordance with applicable standards, including NIST, FIPS, and ISO guidelines.
  • Coordinate prototype builds, engineering validation testing, design verification, and product qualification activities.
  • Support regulatory testing and compliance efforts, including FCC, CE, UL, EMC/EMI, RoHS, and related industry requirements.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure successful product development, production launch, deployment, and ongoing product support.
  • Evaluate new technologies, components, communication standards, and development tools to support future product initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in embedded systems design and firmware development.
  • Proven experience developing products from concept through production release.
  • Strong hands‑on experience in electronic circuit design, hardware integration, and board‑level troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in embedded firmware development using C and C++.
  • Experience with Python and Visual Basic is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of microcontroller architectures and peripherals including GPIO, ADCs, DACs, SPI, I²C, UART.
  • Experience working with PIC and/or STM32 ARM Cortex microcontrollers preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, PCB layouts, bills of materials (BOMs), datasheets, timing diagrams, and interface specifications.
  • Experience using advanced testing equipment; oscilloscopes, analyzers, etc.
  • Strong understanding of embedded networking and communication protocols, including:
    • TCP/IP
    • UDP
    • Ethernet
    • RS‑232/RS‑485
    • Bluetooth
    • NFC
    • USB
    • OSDP
    • Z‑Wave
  • Experience with Altium Designer, KiCad, or other advanced EDA tools.
  • Familiarity with EMC/EMI design practices, safety and other regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Experience integrating embedded systems with cloud‑based platforms, IoT frameworks, or remote device management solutions is highly desirable.
  • Working knowledge of SQL databases for diagnostics, configuration management, reporting, or device monitoring is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver results in a fast‑paced development environment.
