Job description

Andson Biotech is a biotech startup developing the DynaChip X1, a platform for rapid sample preparation and buffer exchange for mass spectrometry. When combined with modern mass spec technologies, Andson’s platform allows scientists to study new biotherapeutic areas. Our mission is to accelerate lab sample prep to enable new discoveries in drug discovery and therapeutics.

We are seeking a hands-on Embedded Systems Engineer to develop, test, and troubleshoot the electronics and firmware used in our instruments. This role spans embedded firmware, PCB‑level debugging, communications, and electromechanical systems.

The ideal candidate is comfortable writing C/C++ firmware, working directly with electronic hardware, using lab equipment to diagnose signals and failures, and troubleshooting issues involving motors, sensors, power, communications, and embedded systems.

This role is full-time on-site in Atlanta, Georgia.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, and debug electronic circuits and PCB assemblies.
  • Work with microcontrollers, processors, sensors, power electronics, and other embedded hardware.
  • Develop and maintain embedded firmware for electronic systems.
  • Implement and troubleshoot serial communication interfaces and protocols such as UART, SPI, I²C, CAN, RS-232/RS-485, Ethernet, or similar technologies.
  • Develop basic PC/software utilities and test tools to communicate with and control electronic hardware.
  • Bring up new circuit boards and perform hardware/firmware integration.
  • Debug electronic systems using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, power supplies, and other laboratory equipment.
  • Troubleshoot issues spanning hardware, firmware, communications, and higher‑level software.
  • Analyze schematics, PCB layouts, datasheets, timing diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Develop test procedures and diagnostic tools to verify system functionality and reliability.
  • Assist with PCB design, component selection, design reviews, and hardware modifications.
  • Identify root causes of hardware and software failures and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Document designs, test results, debugging procedures, and technical findings.
  • Work closely with other engineers and technicians to develop and improve electronic systems.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Embedded Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Hands‑on experience with PCBs and electronic hardware.
  • Experience developing firmware for microcontrollers or embedded processors.
  • Familiarity with one or more embedded programming languages, such as C, C++, or Python.
  • Understanding of common serial communication protocols and the ability to troubleshoot communications at the signal and protocol levels.
  • Experience using electronic test and debugging equipment, including oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
  • Ability to read and understand schematics, datasheets, and PCB layouts.
  • Strong understanding of basic digital and analog electronics.
  • Strong problem‑solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary engineering team.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with PCB design tools such as Altium, KiCad, OrCAD, Eagle, or similar.
  • Experience with embedded Linux or other embedded operating systems.
  • Experience developing PC‑based test, configuration, or diagnostic software.
  • Familiarity with USB, Ethernet, TCP/IP, Modbus, CAN, RS-232/RS-485, or other industrial/device communication protocols.
  • Experience with hardware bring‑up and board‑level debugging.
  • Familiarity with Git or other source‑control systems.
  • Experience with automated hardware testing or manufacturing test systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting EMI/EMC, signal integrity, power, or grounding issues.
