Job summary

Red Cat Corporate is seeking an Embedded Systems & Autonomy Engineer to join SPiDRWORX in Salt Lake City. You will develop firmware for vehicle controllers, integrate autonomy stacks, and work across hardware-software interfaces on multi-domain unmanned systems.

You will prototype new capabilities, validate with lab and field tests, and collaborate with electrical, RF, and autonomy teams to deliver robust, field-ready solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; or equivalent practical experience.
• 2+ years of embedded development on physical hardware, preferably for unmanned systems or defense applications.
• Strong programming in C and C++.
• Experience with ARM Cortex-M/STM32 or similar microcontrollers and RTOS like FreeRTOS/ChibiOS/NuttX.
• Hands-on experience with I2C, SPI, UART, CAN, Ethernet and hardware debugging tools.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate microcontrollers, compute platforms, sensors, autopilots, and software frameworks via hands-on testing and rapid prototyping.
• Build proof-of-concept integrations to validate capabilities before full development.
• Develop and bring up firmware for vehicle controllers and embedded boards.
• Configure and extend vehicle-control software (Betaflight/ArduPilot/PX4) for various platforms.
• Integrate embedded Linux (Jetson) with controllers, cameras, sensors, and autonomy apps.
• Develop system interfaces using MAVLink, ROS 2, DroneCAN, or custom APIs.
• Develop autonomy stacks for navigation, path planning, and mission execution across single/multi-vehicle setups.
• Build hardware-in-the-loop/test environments and support field testing.
