Job summary

Red Cat Holdings seeks a Software Engineering Manager to lead a team of embedded software engineers developing software for unmanned aerial systems, payloads, and robotics platforms. You will drive execution across embedded firmware, Linux-based systems, and hardware integration while mentoring engineers and ensuring high-quality software delivery.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in software engineering with technical leadership responsibilities.
• Experience leading software projects, teams, or engineering initiatives.
• Mentor engineers and drive execution across multiple concurrent projects.
• Strong experience developing embedded software in C/C++.
• Experience building software for robotics, aerospace, autonomous systems, or similar embedded platforms.
• Strong understanding of real-time systems and hardware-software integration.
• Experience developing and maintaining embedded Linux systems.
• Familiarity with Yocto Project build systems and BSP development.
• Experience deploying and maintaining custom Linux distributions on embedded hardware.
• Experience with Linux kernel configuration, customization, and debugging.
• Hands-on experience developing or modifying Linux device drivers.
• Familiarity with SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, USB, Ethernet, and PCIe.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of software engineers with performance and career guidance.
• Prioritize, allocate resources, and drive execution of software projects.
• Lead embedded software, firmware, and Linux-based systems development for FlightWave products.
• Guide software architecture, integration, and troubleshooting across the stack.
• Oversee embedded Linux platforms, Yocto, kernel customization, and hardware bring-up.
• Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, systems, and flight test teams to define requirements and validate products.
• Support real-time software development including motor control and BDShot protocols.
• Improve software quality via code reviews, testing, CI/CD, and best practices.
• Serve as a technical leader balancing delivery, risk, and long-term maintainability.
