Job summary

Knightscope, Inc. is seeking a hands-on software engineer to build the end-of-line test software for the K7 vehicle suite at our Sunnyvale HQ.

You will design the test framework, station software, and embedded interfaces, ensuring robust testing from the ground up and seamless integration with hardware platforms. You will work closely with hardware, firmware, autonomy, and manufacturing teams, utilizing modern tooling including AI assistants for coding, debugging, and research.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS, Electrical, Robotics, or Controls Engineering, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years in software development for hardware test, manufacturing test, or embedded systems on vehicles or complex electromechanical products.
• Designing and writing test software or tooling from scratch.
• Strong Python for test automation; C/C++ for embedded code.
• Hands-on embedded experience with microcontrollers and embedded Linux.
• Familiarity with CAN/CAN-FD, Ethernet, USB, UART, SPI, I2C.
• Experience with RA/SCPI or instrument control.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.

Responsibilities

• Develop the EOL test framework and station software from ground up, including test sequencing, drivers, logging, and pass/fail limits.
• Communicate with vehicle controllers and onboard compute over CAN, Ethernet, and serial; write low-level tools.
• Build factory software gates to flash firmware, verify versions, and enforce pass/fail criteria.
• Develop sensor calibration routines for cameras, LiDAR, and IMUs with target setup and algorithms.
• Create traceability by logging serial numbers, calibration data, and test results to a central database.
• Build simple, reliable station interfaces for production technicians.
• Debug test failures on the floor down to hardware/firmware/software; work with owning teams on root cause.
• Maintain codebase with version control, code reviews, and automated testing.
