Job summary

IDEXX Laboratories, Inc is seeking a low level Embedded Software Engineer for the Instrument Software R&D group in Westbrook, ME. You will help design, implement, and validate embedded solutions across complex subsystems and collaborate with electrical engineers and system teams.

This onsite, full-time role emphasizes C/C++, Python, Linux, Yocto, and build-tools to create robust devices. You will join a cross-functional team and contribute to documentation, release activities, and CI pipelines

Qualifications

• Proficiency with C/C++, bootloaders, and firmware development.
• Scripting experience with Python and Bash in Linux operating systems.
• Ability to debug issues across bring-up, validation, and production phases of programs.
• Able to read and interpret board schematics.
• Familiarity with embedded protocols (I2C, SPI, USB, PCIe).
• Self-starter with minimal supervision; can work in teams and alone.
• Fluency in English; strong verbal and written communication.
• Nice to have: Xilinx SoC/SoM architecture and build-tools, Buildroot, CMake, Github Actions, TCL.

Responsibilities

• Designs, develops, and maintains Linux drivers, BSPs, and Yocto-based distributions.
• Write and maintain unit and integration tests; contribute to CI pipeline.
• Supports software/firmware/hardware integration to deliver functional solutions.
• Participates in development of new product requirements, features, and designs.
• Creates design, release, and related software/system documentation.
• Coordinates with development teams through design, prototype, and production release.
• Supports software engineering functional excellence objectives.
