Leonardo DRS is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer II in Melbourne, FL to design, develop, and verify embedded software for advanced systems. You will work across bare-metal, RTOS, and embedded Linux environments, collaborating with hardware, FPGA, and verification teams throughout the lifecycle.

The role requires strong programming skills in C/C++, Python, and driver development, with a focus on meeting performance and reliability objectives in a defense/aerospace context.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years of professional embedded software experience.
• Strong C, C++, and Python skills with modern C++.
• Experience in Bare-M Metal, FreeRTOS, or Embedded Linux.
• Experience with low-level device drivers and interfaces (UART, I2C, SPI).
• Familiarity with GitLab, JIRA, Confluence.
• Working knowledge of embedded systems architecture and verification methods.
• Experience with EO/IR cameras or sensor-based embedded systems.
• Strong analytical and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, integrate, test, and maintain embedded software applications and device drivers.
• Develop software for AMD/Xilinx Zynq UltraScale+ MPSoC and MicroBlaze platforms.
• Implement and debug low-level interfaces (UART, I2C, SPI, GPIO).
• Support software integration across hardware, FPGA, and system components.
• Perform software verification, debugging, and root-cause analysis.
• Participate in board bring-up, hardware/software integration, and system validation.
• Develop unit tests and integration tests for software verification.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet technical and schedule goals.
• Contribute to design reviews, code reviews, and process improvements.
• Use configuration management tools to maintain high-quality deliverables.
