Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Software Engineer in Michigan to join the Vehicle Mechatronic Embedded Controls team, focusing on embedded software for high‑voltage battery management systems in GM's EV portfolio. You will contribute to safety, architecture, and diagnostics while collaborating across functions in a hybrid work setup.

You will design and validate software using CAN/LIN/Ethernet, apply MISRA guidelines, and support CI/CD practices with a strong emphasis on testability and traceability

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering or related technical discipline.
• 2+ years embedded software experience in a professional setting.
• Strong background in system design, diagnostics strategies, and control systems.
• Proficient in C, C++, and Python.
• Experience with SiL/HiL and vehicle-level testing.
• Knowledge of diagnostics, verification, and validation methodologies.
• Ability to document designs, test cases and results thoroughly.
• Experience with SW testing environments and MISRA guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deliver embedded software for VMEC Battery Management Systems.
• Ensure on-time, high-quality software delivery for wired battery management systems.
• Adhere to safety requirements, regulations, and internal policies (MISRA).
• Apply architecture and design patterns for scalable, hardware-agnostic solutions.
• Translate requirements into robust software designs with diagnostic strategies.
• Implement and validate software using CAN, LIN, Ethernet, ARXML and modern vehicle architectures.
• Develop diagnostics for fault detection, isolation, validation, and field support.
• Document designs and link to test cases to ensure traceability.
• Lead technical discussions in Scrum teams; provide code reviews and mentorship.
