We are seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to develop, integrate, debug, and test software supporting unmanned systems, subsystems, and engineering test platforms for defense applications. This position requires strong analytical thinking, hands-on problem solving, and the ability to work effectively across multiple engineering disciplines. You will collaborate with a highly technical team to develop reliable, high-performance products from early concept through deployment and production.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the development of new products from initial concept and research through engineering development, testing, and production.
- Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, systems, and software engineers, as well as program management, suppliers, and customers.
- Design, implement, debug, and maintain embedded software while following established configuration management and software quality practices.
- Develop, configure, integrate, and deploy flight and ground-control software across a range of small aerial and ground-based platforms.
- Support the evaluation and selection of microprocessors, microcontrollers, memory, and other embedded computing components.
- Partner with electrical engineers to troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware, firmware, and software integration issues.
- Develop test infrastructure and tools to support system validation, performance testing, and product development.
- Create clear technical documentation covering software, testing, configuration, and system operation.
- Analyze complex technical problems, identify root causes, and develop practical solutions that improve system performance and reliability.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, with 5+ years of embedded software development experience or equivalent practical experience.
- Strong programming experience in C and C++.
- Experience developing software for embedded systems; background in aviation or vehicle control systems is a plus.
- Familiarity with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and integrating embedded software with devices such as EEPROMs, FPGAs, and ASICs.
- Experience working with autonomous or semi-autonomous systems is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of embedded communication interfaces and protocols such as I²C, UART, USB, MIPI, or similar technologies.
- Hands-on experience with system integration, debugging, and test.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with customers, suppliers, and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Additional Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Person.
- Ability and willingness to contribute in a fast-paced startup environment, taking ownership and helping build processes and products from the ground up.
- Occasional domestic travel may be required to support customer testing, system integration, or design reviews.
