RTX, a leader in aerospace and defense, seeks an embedded software engineer to join the Space and RF Sensors Software team. You will design, code, and test real-time embedded software for advanced radar, sensor, guidance, and fire-control systems.

You’ll collaborate across disciplines to deliver robust solutions that safeguard national security. The role emphasizes participation in all SDLC phases, CI/CD practices, and secure coding.

Competenze

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) from an accredited institution; degree by start date.
  • Experience developing and testing/debugging software using C, C++, or similar OO language.
  • Real-time embedded software development experience.
  • Familiarity with Python.
  • Strong hands-on troubleshooting and problem-solving.
  • Experience in team-based development with good communication.
  • Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, coursework, or projects.

Join the Space and RF Sensors Software team at Raytheon, where we develop cutting-edge software applications focused on solving our customers' toughest defense challenges. In this role, you will be part of an elite software engineering team to design, code, integrate, and test critical real-time embedded software with applications to advanced next generation radar, sensor, guidance, and fire control systems. Operating at the leading edge of technology, you will contribute across all phases of the software development lifecycle to deliver innovative solutions that help keep our nation and allies safe.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work on complex technical problems and collaborate to provide innovative solutions. Requires investigation and troubleshooting skills to assess issues and develop resolutions.
  • Work at all phases of the SW development lifecycle, including SW/HW integration, dependent on program phase
  • Assist in the derivation of system and software requirements, architectural modeling, and technical analysis
  • Design, code, unit test, integrate, and document real-time embedded software solutions with a focus on RF, radar modes and sensing capabilities.
  • Participate actively in software peer reviews, code inspections, and technical decision-making alongside multidisciplinary teams, including program leadership and customers
  • Support program execution to ensure work products meet technical, cost, schedule, and quality baselines.
  • Follow established software development processes and practices to maintain software product integrity.
  • This position requires the eligibility to obtain a security clearance. Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications You Must Have
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from accredited institution. Degree must be obtained by start date.
  • Experience developing, and testing or debugging software using C, C++, or similar object-oriented programming language
  • Real time embedded software development experience
  • Familiarity with computer scripting languages such as Python
  • Strong hands‑on troubleshooting and problem‑solving experience
  • Experience developing software in a team‑based development environment with strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Experience may be obtained through on‑the‑job experience, research, coursework, or projects.
Qualifications We Prefer
  • Knowledge of Software Development Processes and experience participating in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), including requirements, design, implementation, and testing
  • Experience working with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines and automated build environments.
  • Familiarity with Scrum/Agile, DevSecOps, Git/GitLab
  • Hands‑on experience developing low‑level device drivers or real‑time embedded operating system (RTOS) applications.
  • Hands‑on experience with hardware‑software integration and embedded system testing
  • Familiarity working with physical hardware
  • Familiarity and practical application of fundamental data structures and algorithms.
  • Practical exposure to radar technologies, radar signal processing, or RF systems.
  • Experience with developing and integrating software for Radar systems
  • Experience developing embedded software utilizing ADA, Rust or similar secure programming languages
  • Knowledge of secure coding practices and understanding of cybersecurity principles
  • Experience working on UNIX, Redhat Linux, Windows, VxWorks, Green Hills, Integrity or other Real Time Operating Systems.
  • Familiarity with Unified Modeling Language (UML)
  • Experience developing low‑level code for microcontrollers or platforms like Arduino or Raspberry Pi
  • Familiarity with cryptographic algorithms (e.g., AES, RSA, ECC) and their application in software assurance
  • Understanding of anti‑tamper techniques and methods for protecting intellectual property and sensitive data
  • Experience with threat modeling, risk assessment, and developing secure software systems
  • Familiarity with static and dynamic code analysis tools, such as Coverity, Fortify, or SonarQube

Employees who are working in Onsite roles will work primarily onsite. This includes all production and maintenance employees, as they are essential to the development of our products.

The salary range for this role is 62,900 USD - 119,700 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short‑term disability, long‑term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective‑bargaining agreement.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.

This role is a U.S.-based role. If the successful candidate resides in a U.S. territory, the appropriate pay structure and benefits will apply.
