Job Description

Project Kuiper aims to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities worldwide, helping to close the digital divide for various customers including consumers, businesses, and government agencies.

Role Overview: This Software Engineer will design, implement, and operate globally available distributed systems to enable Kuiper's operation within virtual environments at scale, utilizing the latest AWS technologies and industry best practices.

Export Control Requirement: Candidates must be U.S. citizens, nationals, lawful permanent residents (Green Card holders), refugees, or asylees, due to export control laws.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop ARM A, M series, or ARC processor emulators (e.g., QEMU).
  • Maintain knowledge of networking protocols, including TCP/IP at L1-L2.
  • Create embedded software testing tools.
  • Experience with FreeRTOS or similar real-time operating systems.
  • Proficiency in Linux and RTOS environments.
  • Invent tools for software deployment, testing, and data analysis within CI/CD pipelines.
  • Develop tools for testing across virtualized hardware, real hardware-in-the-loop, and on-orbit testing.
  • Design and implement distributed cloud services and APIs.
  • Use Docker and partner with device software, frontend, networking, and security teams.
  • Mentor junior engineers and promote engineering best practices.
  • Design embedded modeling and simulation for broadband technologies like LTE, WiMax, WiFi.
  • Understand protocol standards such as IPv4, IPv6, LTE, 802.11 standards.
  • Apply object-oriented programming principles.
  • Strong background in Wireless Networks and system integration/testing.
  • Develop Linux-based software for processors and microcontrollers (ARM, PowerPC, x86).
  • Deep understanding of testing, CI/CD, deployment, and monitoring processes.

Additional Notes: This role involves building cloud services and APIs to simulate software on Kuiper's satellite and ground devices, focusing on low-latency, scalable architectures for high-quality internet delivery.

Qualifications
Basic:
  • 3+ years of professional software development experience.
  • 2+ years in system design or architecture.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language.
Preferred:
  • Full software development lifecycle experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field.
