Project Kuiper aims to expand global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to provide fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities worldwide, helping to bridge the digital divide for various customers including consumers, businesses, and government agencies.

Role: This Software Engineer will design, implement, and operate globally distributed systems to enable Kuiper to simulate environments at scale. The role involves building systems with the latest AWS technologies, following best software engineering practices.

Export Control Requirement: Candidates must be U.S. citizens or nationals, U.S. permanent residents (Green Card holders), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as refugees or asylum seekers, due to export control laws.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop ARM A, M series, or ARC processor emulators (e.g., QEMU)
• Design and develop embedded software testing tools
• Experience with FreeRTOS or similar real-time operating systems
• Proficiency with Linux and RTOS
• Create tools for frequent, reliable software deployment, testing, and data analysis within CI/CD pipelines
• Develop testing tools for virtualized hardware, real hardware-in-the-loop, and on-orbit testing
• Design and implement distributed cloud services and APIs
• Collaborate with device software, frontend, networking, and security teams
• Promote engineering best practices and mentor junior engineers
• Develop embedded modeling and simulation for broadband technologies (LTE, WiMax, WiFi)
• Deep understanding of wireless protocols (IPv4, IPv6, LTE, 802.11 standards)
• Knowledge of object-oriented programming and system integration/testing methodologies
• Experience with network protocols, QoS, network security, and software-defined networks
• Develop Linux-based software for various processors and microcontrollers
• Strong grasp of testing, CI/CD, build, deployment, and monitoring processes

Additional Notes: This role involves building cloud services and APIs to simulate software on Kuiper devices, ensuring high-quality, low-latency internet services.

Basic Qualifications

• At least 3 years of professional software development experience
