Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. is seeking an Embedded Software Engineering Specialist to define architectures for next-generation collision mitigation systems on Caterpillar construction products.

You will lead the design and integration of software frameworks for camera, radar, and sensing in safety-critical embedded environments. The role requires extensive experience in embedded C++, real-time Linux, and ROS/ROS2, with hands-on work on perception, sensor fusion, and middleware architectures.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience designing software architectures for complex embedded systems using C++.
• Strong background with embedded Linux, real-time systems, and software platform design for connected, autonomous, or safety-critical products.
• Experience architecting solutions involving perception technologies, sensor fusion, camera systems, radar integration, or collision avoidance capabilities.
• Proven ability to lead technical direction across cross-functional teams and influence software design decisions throughout the product lifecycle.
• Experience with ROS/ROS2, distributed software architectures, middleware frameworks, and modern software development practices.

Responsibilities

• Define the embedded software architecture for next-generation collision mitigation systems for Caterpillar products.
• Lead design and integration of software frameworks supporting camera, radar, and sensing within safety-critical environments.
• Establish architecture standards, patterns, and roadmaps; guide teams through implementation and integration.
• Collaborate with teams to translate requirements into robust architectural solutions meeting safety and reliability goals.
• Drive decisions across embedded Linux and real-time environments balancing tradeoffs and long-term strategy.
