Job summary

Askari Defense, Inc. is seeking a perception engineer to build, evaluate, and deploy sensing and embedded vision systems for our autonomous intercept platforms.

You will cover the full perception stack from camera selection through image formation and embedded deployment, integrating with the autonomy system. You will apply ML as part of the job, focusing on sensor physics, exposure, latency, compute, and data pipelines, with hands-on work on real vehicles and onboard perception performance

Qualifications

• BS in CS/Robotics/EE/CE/Aerospace or related field with 1+ years of robotics experience or MS in related discipline.
• Experience in perception, computer vision, image-processing, or sensor-processing for real-world applications.
• Proficiency in C++ for performance-sensitive systems.
• Familiarity with image-processing fundamentals: filtering, denoising, contrast enhancement, feature extraction.
• Experience deploying perception software on embedded edge hardware is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deploy optical sensing, image-processing, and embedded perception capabilities for real-time detection, classification, tracking, and reasoning on fast-moving aerial targets.
• Focus on camera and lens trade studies, sensor characteristics, and algorithmic improvements for low-contrast objects.
• Integrate perception outputs into the autonomy stack using ROS 2 and production-quality C++.
• Benchmark, debug, and optimize perception pipelines for latency and throughput on embedded hardware.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure perception outputs meet system needs.
