Job summary

Johnson Controls, Inc. in Westford, MA is seeking an Embedded Linux Firmware Engineer to join the Software House engineering team. You will design, develop, test, and maintain embedded firmware for access control solutions, collaborating across firmware, hardware, and software teams.

Develop using C/C++ on Embedded Linux and Zephyr RTOS, perform board bring-up, and help debug with JTAG and oscilloscopes. Salary range is $79,000–$110,000 with a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• US Citizen and/or Permanent Resident of the US.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field
• 1-3 years of professional experience in embedded software or firmware development
• Experience developing software in C/C++
• Experience working with Embedded Linux systems
• Familiarity with Linux kernel, device drivers, Buildroot, U-Boot, or related embedded Linux technologies
• Strong problem-solving, debugging, and communication skills

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded firmware for access control panels, readers, and I/O devices
• Develop software using C/C++ on Embedded Linux and Zephyr RTOS platforms
• Support hardware integration, board bring-up activities, and system diagnostics
• Modify and maintain Linux platform components including Buildroot, U-Boot, kernel drivers, and device trees
• Debug issues across hardware and software, utilizing tools such as JTAG debuggers, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle
• Support product enhancements, sustaining engineering efforts, and field issue investigations
