Job summary

General Galactic is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to design and build critical software for our fleet of spacecraft. You will own major portions of embedded and flight software, participate in testing, qualification, and deployment for missions in the coming years.

You will collaborate with a focused team to deliver robust software, optimize performance, and ensure safety standards while growing with a fast-paced startup in the aerospace sector.

Qualifications

• BS in computer science, computer engineering, aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, or similar.
• 2+ years of experience in software development, preferably aerospace.
• Proficiency in C/C++, Git, Python, Grafana, or Rust.
• Experience with RTOS environments and satellite communications protocols.
• Understanding of microcontroller architectures and interfaces.
• Strong debugging and optimization skills, plus hazard and root-cause analysis.
• Experience with safety standards and formal certification processes (NASA/FAA/etc.).
• Startup or fast-paced environment experience.
• Strong analytical, first-principles problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Architect and deliver core flight software meeting latency, jitter, and control frequency requirements.
• Own embedded software for microcontrollers and similar hardware.
• Implement, test, and integrate flight software for algorithms, command/telemetry, mission management, health and status, and fault management.
• Write clean, efficient, testable code for real-time safety-critical applications.
• Implement communication protocols (UDP, multicast, Ethernet).
• Collaborate with hardware and avionics engineers across the product lifecycle.
• Document code and ConOps clearly.
• Collaborate with GNC engineers to integrate complex vehicle algorithms.
• Lead testing development and performance, including hardware-in-the-loop and simulations.
