Job summary

Leonardo DRS is seeking an Electrical Engineer II in Danbury, CT to design and analyze embedded firmware for electronic systems. You will work with microcontrollers and FPGA-based designs, crafting low-level software and coordinating tight integration with hardware teams.

The role emphasizes development through testing, debugging, and documentation, with a focus on fault diagnosis and continuous improvement of embedded solutions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical or computer engineering.
• Minimum 4 years of firmware/embedded systems experience.
• Experience with VHDL/Verilog/SystemVerilog.
• Familiarity with microcontrollers and embedded processors.
• Experience with UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, USB or Ethernet.
• Familiarity with embedded development tools and debugging methods.
• Experience with Git or similar version control systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication; team collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, integrate, analyze, document, and support testing of firmware and embedded software.
• Develop and maintain low-level firmware using industry-standard languages and tools.
• Support hardware/software integration, bring-up, and debug of prototype and production hardware.
• Use development tools such as Vivado, Vitis, ModelSim/Questa, ILA, scopes and logic analyzers.
• Support FPGA development lifecycle from requirements through lab debug.
• Review customer specs and develop firmware/FPGA designs to meet objectives.
