Job summary

Ascential Medical & Life Sciences in San Diego, CA is seeking an Electrical Engineer with 2–5+ years of related experience (or a Master’s with 0–2+ years) to design, develop, modify, and evaluate electronic systems and PCBA hardware for medical devices. The role involves digital/analog circuit design, embedded software, and interaction with clients for technical design reviews.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; 2–5+ years experience, or Master’s with 0–2+ years.
• Experience with analog and digital circuit design, schematic capture, PCB layout, hardware bring-up and system-level debugging.
• Familiarity with SPI, I²C, UART, CAN, USB, Ethernet, and wireless interfaces.
• Experience with testing and troubleshooting PCBA designs using common test equipment.
• Knowledge of regulatory processes and requirements (FCC, UL, CSA, IEC) for medical devices.
• Experience developing embedded systems using C/C++ on microcontrollers with RTOS.
• Working knowledge of Git, debugging tools, automated testing, and version control.
• Familiarity with embedded Linux, Python, or development of engineering/test tools.
• Exposure to FPGA development (VHDL/Verilog) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Designs, develops, modifies, and evaluates electronic systems and PCBs for medical devices and related hardware.
• Analyzes equipment to establish operating data and conducts experimental tests; evaluates results.
• Selects components and may assess vendor capability to support product development.
• Interacts with clients to present technical designs and project status.
• Develops embedded software using C/C++ on microcontrollers with RTOS.
• Complies with regulatory requirements (FCC/UL/CSA/IEC) and medical device standards.
• Tests and troubleshoots PCBA designs using standard equipment and processes.
• Integrates sensors, motor controls, and power electronics within embedded systems.
