Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking an Embedded Automation Architect to define the multi-year automation roadmap for a dedicated business unit, partnering with design and production teams to freeze designs, reduce part count, and automate high-value processes.

You will lead AI-enabled automation, ensure the digital thread across MES and shop-floor systems, and defend the business case with payback and cost-savings analyses while traveling to Blue Origin facilities as needed.

Qualifications

8+ years in automation, controls, or robotics engineering with hands-on build experience.
Experience owning automation strategy or a multi-project roadmap across a product line or facility.
Deep knowledge of PLC/controls, industrial robots, motion systems, and vision.
Understanding IT/OT interconnectivity and the digital thread across systems.
Fluency with AI-enabled automation approaches and safe deployment.
Strong make-versus-buy judgment and financial literacy for business cases.
Experience with DFMA upstream of a build and manufacturing process know-how.
Willingness to embed on-site and travel between Blue Origin facilities.
U.S. citizen or lawful work eligibility.

Responsibilities

Own and continuously maintain the automation roadmap for your assigned unit, built against Blue's standards and digital thread.
Prioritize automation investment by identifying recurring labor/cost savings and ranking by payoff.
Lead make-versus-buy decisions for automation systems and defend an internal-build option when advantageous.
Enforce design-for-automation upstream with design and engineering teams to freeze designs and reduce fasteners.
Architect AI-enabled automation (auto-CAM, ML inspection, model-to-motion) with safety gate controls.
Work AI-natively, building reusable automation tools for the wider Factory Automation group.
Champion the single digital thread from MES to machine, eliminating IT/OT boundary re-keying.
Translate roadmap items into scoped projects and hand to central build teams.
Ensure maintenance basis, spares, and telemetry hooks are defined alongside process design.
Build and defend the financial case (payback, NPV) to leadership and Finance reviews.
Interface as trusted automation authority for the business unit.
