Job summary

Blue Origin LLC seeks an Embedded Automation Architect to own the automation roadmap for a dedicated business unit, aligning with Blue's digital thread and factory automation standards. You will influence design-for-automation decisions and lead multi-project initiatives across PLCs, robotics, and AI-enabled automation.

This senior role requires deep controls and robotics expertise, experience with IT/OT integration, and strong financial justification for automation investments.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in automation, controls, or robotics engineering.
• Experience owning automation strategy or multi-project roadmaps.
• Knowledge of PLC/controls platforms and industrial robots.
• Understanding IT/OT interconnectivity and data flows across PLM/MBD, MES, ERP.
• Experience with AI-enabled automation approaches and model-based tooling.
• Strong make-versus-buy/build-versus-integrator judgment.

Responsibilities

• Own and maintain the automation roadmap for the assigned business unit against standards and digital thread.
• Prioritize automation investments by savings potential and capital impact.
• Lead make-versus-buy decisions for automation systems and defend internal-build options.
• Drive design-for-automation upstream with design/engineering teams to reduce part count and fasteners.
• Architect AI-enabled automation and machine-generated programming while ensuring safety gates.
• Develop reusable automation tools and celebrate a single digital thread across the unit.
• Translate roadmap items into scoped projects and hand to central build teams; supervise through reviews and commissioning.
• Ensure cells have maintenance baseline, spares, and telemetry defined with process design.
