NXP Semiconductors is seeking an Embedded AI MPU Field Application Engineer in Austin, TX. You will be a key member of the Customer Application Support team, delivering premium technical support and driving design-in activity with NXP’s sales staff, while collaborating with multiple business lines.

You will develop system-level knowledge of target Industrial and IoT markets, lead proof-of-concept campaigns, and travel up to 30% within the continental US.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years development engineering or applications support of microprocessor based embedded systems.
  • Field Application Engineering experience in the semiconductor industry.
  • Experience with C and C++ and a record of developing embedded firmware.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of typical SoC hardware interfaces (Ethernet, MIPI, SDIO, LP DDR4/5, Quad/Octal SPI, USB2.0/3.0, UART).
  • Knowledge of ARM Cortex A, M and R based architectures and register programming models.
  • Experience using Real-Time OS systems: QNX, FreeRTOS and Zephyr preferred.
  • Knowledge in embedded Linux is essential: kernel, user-space and uboot environments.
  • Hands on knowledge of graphics and video subsystems and related software drivers helpful.
  • Knowledge of Edge AI applications deployment is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with CNNs, LLMs, VLMs, Agentic AI a plus.
  • Ability to read, understand and review schematics and provide design recommendations highly desirable.
  • Willing to travel up to 30% within continental US

Position Overview As a Embedded AI MPU Field Application Engineer, you’ll be one of the key players in the Customer Application Support team and part of a worldwide technical community providing premium technical support to NXP customers and their projects. You drive demand creation and design-in activity at customer sites in close cooperation with the NXP business lines; you provide technical skills & support to NXP’s sales staff and will work with the NXP technical community about technical issues and future roadmap of your customer(s). We rely on you to deliver the NXP value message in a persuasive and accurate manner, in order to increase our market share.

Key Responsibilities for the role:
  • Deliver premium technical support in content and time to assigned customers
  • Accountable to drive design wins in their target accounts and target technology
  • Leads proof of concept, solution design and demonstrations to secure NXP solution’s design-in
  • Synthesizes customer and competitive insights to improve product definition and roadmaps
  • Direct the NXP design-in campaigns for assigned customers to ensure early involvement in the customer’s technology roadmap and timely flow of information to all necessary parties within NXP and customer
  • Qualifies the value proposition of NXP's products (strengths versus competitive products) and quantifies the technical benefits derived from choosing NXP
  • Own the system software architect role to ensure broader technical team understands the software value proposition for system proposals
  • Successfully build relationships with sales team members, business lines, partners and customers in support of sales team objectives
  • Analyze customer's technical objectives through the use of relevant data gathering techniques enabling the sales team to be more predictive, effective and responsive to customer needs
  • Assist in educating Field Sales Engineers on new technologies, new product features and their related business value
  • Develops system level knowledge of target application spaces in Industrial and IoT vertical markets
