Job summary

SCI in Austin, TX is seeking an embalmer or apprentice to join our team. The role requires respectful handling of the deceased, restorations, removals, dressing and cosmetics, plus strict adherence to licensing regulations and safety protocols.

The candidate should have a high school diploma or equivalent, and a mortuary college degree or state-approved alternative. Ideal appointee has 2+ years in a 200-call min/year facility and solid computer skills.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Graduation from accredited mortuary college or other degree as required by state law.
• Embalmer or Apprentice experience as required by state law; 2 years in a 200-call min/year facility preferred.

Responsibilities

• Cares for deceased in a respectful manner and performs tasks including verification of ID and embalming authorization; restorations; removals and transfers; dressing, styling hair and cosmetics; other prep work.
• Adheres to all licensing regulations at local, state, and federal levels.
• Assists with maintenance of preparation room and facility.
• Cleans soiled equipment and handles hazardous material spills.
• Ensures hazardous materials and spills are managed per Material Data Safety Sheets.
• Assists with chemical and supply inventory.
• Receives caskets and other funeral home supplies.
• Promotes a safe work environment by practicing universal precautions.
