Job summary

Girls Global Academy in Washington, DC seeks an English Language Learner (ELL) Teacher to collaborate with instructors and community partners to provide comprehensive support and direct instruction when needed. The teacher ensures students acquire academic language across content areas while supporting social-emotional growth in a girl-centered environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred, in a content area.
• Urban secondary classroom experience in an urban context preferred.
• Experience teaching diverse student levels and backgrounds.
• Creative and enthusiastic approach to teaching and learning.
• Ability to write cohesive lesson plans.
• Collaborative work within and across disciplines with a diverse team.
• Ability to work with parents and community partners.
• Excellent interpersonal communication, classroom management, and adaptive teaching.
• Lead extracurricular activities during and after school.
• Receive and incorporate feedback from team leaders and peers.
• Growth mindset and openness to feedback from leadership.

Responsibilities

• Provides engaging, research-based English Language Development instruction that builds academic language and supports core subjects.
• Differentiates instruction using technology, scaffolds, and varied strategies based on readiness and interests.
• Collaborates with content teachers to embed language development strategies in core subjects.
• Contributes to interdisciplinary curriculum planning linking language, culture, and global perspectives.
• Monitors student progress with data and provides targeted interventions or enrichment.
• Fosters strong relationships with students and supports a girl-centered, inclusive environment.
• Plans and teaches lessons using inquiry-based approaches and maintains attendance and assessments records.
• Participates in advisory programs and communicates regularly with families.
