Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally-accredited college or university; Master’s degree preferred.
• North Carolina Professional Educator’s License in ESL (00110).
• Minimum of five years successful classroom teaching experience, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serves EL students in a variety of grade levels and schools throughout the district.
• Identifies students with limited English proficiency according to state law and district policy.
• Uses standardized tests, informal tasks, and observations to assess needs.
• Teaches Language Arts to non-native English speaking pupils using approved curricula.
• Provides individualized and small group instruction to meet student needs.
• Establishes and maintains standards of student participation and behavior.
• Evaluates academic and social growth and maintains records.
• Communicates with parents through various channels.
• Creates effective learning environments with displays and instructional materials.
• Maintains professional competence through ongoing training.
• Selects instructional materials and media to meet goals.
• Provides instruction and activities to meet school policies and objectives.
• Participates in faculty/district committees and student activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
