Job summary

Minnesota Department of Natural Resources seeks two full‑time, temporary Natural Resources Technicians to support elk life history studies at Thief Lake Wildlife Management Area. Fieldwork includes capturing elk, GPS collaring, habitat data collection, and data entry across MN and nearby regions. Travel to field sites, housing provided, and varied shifts.

Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to follow written protocols and collect biological data in wildlife field settings.
Demonstrated ability to move over uneven terrain using maps and GPS units.
Ability to safely handle wild elk for biological sample collection and GPS collaring.
Knowledge of vegetation and habitat sampling techniques.
Strong communication skills for field data and coordination.
Proficiency with standard office software for data entry and management.
Ability to drive 4WD trucks on rough roads in winter conditions.
Ability to operate snowmobiles and ATVs.

Responsibilities

Capture adult elk and collect biological/observational data in the field.
Enter observational data and samples into datasheets/tablets/databases accurately.
Maintain field equipment for storage, transport, and operation.
