Hogan Lovells Cadwalader's Supreme Court & Appellate Practice in Washington, DC seeks a talented associate with 2-4 years of post-law-school experience, including at least one appellate clerkship, to join our nationally recognized team.

The role offers substantial responsibility, client contact, and involvement in all phases of appellate litigation, from strategy to briefing and oral argument, with opportunities for collaboration across trials and appellate teams.

Qualifications

• J.D. degree from a top law school with an outstanding academic record.
• 2-4 years of legal experience following law school graduation.
• At least one federal or state appellate court clerkship; federal appellate clerkship experience is strongly preferred.
• Exceptional legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
• Demonstrated interest in appellate advocacy, constitutional law, administrative law, or complex commercial litigation.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and project management abilities.
• Membership in good standing with a state bar, or eligibility to become admitted promptly.

Responsibilities

• Draft and edit briefs, petitions for certiorari, amicus briefs, and other appellate filings.
• Conduct sophisticated legal research and analysis on complex constitutional, statutory, administrative, and commercial issues.
• Prepare legal memoranda, client counseling materials, and strategic assessments.
• Participate in moot courts and oral argument preparation.
• Work with trial teams to preserve appellate issues and develop litigation strategy.
• Collaborate closely with partners and fellow associates in a collegial, team-oriented environment.
• Contribute to thought leadership and business development initiatives relating to appellate advocacy and emerging legal issues.
