Job summary

Sporting Kansas City is seeking a Data Scientist to lead end-to-end modelling efforts across medical, sports sciences, scouting, squad planning and performance analysis. You will work with coaches, analysts and engineers to translate data into insights and build interpretable models driving a predictive analytics framework for the club.

The role requires strong Python/SQL skills, ML experience and the ability to communicate complex results to non-technical stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science or related STEM subject.
• Experience in Data Science, Machine Learning, Applied Statistics or similar role.
• Proven experience designing, validating and monitoring applied machine learning models.
• Robust experience using SQL and Python for data analysis, modelling and automation.
• Strong understanding of statistical modelling, experimental design and model evaluation.
• Creative and curious problem solver with a positive attitude to new challenges.
• Evidence of excellent communication skills and ability to translate technical concepts.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development and validation of advanced models to improve decision-making.
• Translate complex data into actionable insights for coaches, analysts and stakeholders.
• Collaborate with Data Engineer and Data Analyst to productionize models and ensure reliable, production-ready workflows.
• Develop and maintain tools for testing, validation, versioning, monitoring and model governance.
• Evaluate model performance continuously and adapt to changing club needs.
• Support forecasting and scenario-analysis tools for squad and salary cap planning.
