Job summary

West Ottawa North High School in Michigan seeks a 7th Grade Competitive Cheer Head Coach (Posting #3977). Beginning dates are 10/19/2026 or 12/16/2026 as assigned. Reports to the Athletic Director. Responsibilities include attending meetings, inventory, clinics, safety oversight, and promoting athletic and academic excellence.

The role requires after-school and Saturday availability, strong leadership, and adherence to MHSAA and district policies. Coaching with integrity is expected.

Qualifications

• Experience in coaching competitive cheer.
• Must be available after school and Saturdays.
• CPR/AED, CAP Certified Concussion Protocol

Responsibilities

• Attends athletic department meetings when scheduled.
• Submits an annual inventory of athletic uniforms and equipment that is used by his/her team.
• Maintains professional competency by attending clinics.
• Keeps the Athletic Director informed of any or all problems, before, during, or after all sporting events.
• Encourages athletes to excel in academic work.
• Submits an End of the Season Checklist in a timely manner.
• Issues, cleans, stores, cares and returns all athletic equipment.
• Oversees the safety conditions of the area when team members are practicing.
• Enforces disciplined behavior, code of fair play, and establishes standards. Reports all incidents to the Athletic Director.
• Establishes an effective relationship with players, parents, and administrators.
• Attends practices, games, and meetings punctually.
• Uses professional conduct, language, and decorum with players, opponents, officials, and fans.
• Works with the athletic director to maintain player eligibility information.
• Teaches individual participants in the skills necessary for the highest possible achievement in the sport involved.
• Each practice session is planned out ahead of time.
• Submits necessary rosters, physical forms, eligibility list forms, and training rule forms signed by the parents.
• Is a positive role model.
• Adheres to those rules and regulations as detailed by the MHSAA and Board of Education policies and regulations.
• Maintains team attendance records and medical emergency cards.
• Works to promote increased participation to improve methods, techniques, strength and endurance both in and out of season.
• Submits written criteria for "cutting" athletes at tryouts.
• Displays self-control and maintains a positive profile with officials.
• Provides supervision of locker room and training room.
