Job summary

West Ottawa Public Schools is seeking a 7th Grade Boys Basketball Head Coach (White Team) at Harbor Lights & Macatawa Bay Middle Schools. The role focuses on leading practices, mentoring players, and coordinating with the athletic department to support academics and sportsmanship.

Responsibilities include attending meetings, inventory and equipment management, safety oversight, maintaining eligibility, and ensuring professional conduct consistent with MHSAA policies and school rules.

Responsibilities

• Maintains professional competency by attending clinics.
• Keeps the Athletic Director informed of any or all problems, before, during, or after all sporting events.
• Encourages athletes to excel in academic work.
• Submits an End of the Season Checklist in a timely manner.
• Issues, cleans, stores, cares and returns all athletic equipment.
• Oversees the safety conditions of the area when team members are practicing.
• Enforces disciplined behavior, code of fair play, and establishes standards.
• Reports all incidents to the Athletic Director.
• Establishes an effective relationship with players, parents, and administrators.
• Attends practices, games, and meetings punctually.
• Uses professional conduct, language, and decorum with players, opponents, officials, and fans.
• Works with the athletic director to maintain player eligibility information.
• Teaches individual participants in the skills necessary for the highest possible achievement in the sport involved.
• Each practice session is planned out ahead of time.
• Submits necessary rosters, physical forms, eligibility list forms, and training rule forms signed by the parents.
• Is a positive role model.
• Adheres to those rules and regulations as detailed by the MHSAA and Board of Education policies and regulations.
• Maintains team attendance records and medical emergency cards.
• Works to promote increased participation to improve methods, techniques, strength and endurance both in and out of season.
• Submits written criteria for "cutting" athletes at tryouts.
• Displays self-control and maintains a positive profile with officials.
• Provides supervision of locker room and training room.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

• Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
• The worker is subject to environmental conditions.
• The worker should provide consistent and reliable in person attendance
