Garfield County Colorado is seeking entry-level staff to support eligibility determinations for public assistance programs with on-the-job training. The role covers programs such as Medicaid, SNAP, Colorado Works, and LEAP, with a clear pathway to advancement in the Eligibility Technician career ladder.
Responsibilities include interviewing clients, reviewing applications, data entry into CBMS, and learning state and county regulations.
Performs entry level eligibility determination for public assistance programs, while receiving on the job training. Training includes instruction on applicable federal and state laws, county rules, and required computer systems. Eligibility programs include Old Age Pension, Aid to the Needy Disabled, Colorado Works, Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), LEAP and/or Child Care and other programs as needed. Full performance of the essential functions is preparation for the next level in the Eligibility Technician career ladder; training is generally completed after a period of one year. There are three levels in the Eligibility Technician career ladder, this position is the first level in the series.

Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment. Extended periods of sitting are required.
The employee is regularly required to travel within the County.
Computer and relevant software applications, spreadsheets, calendars, and word processing. Will also work with calculators, telephone systems, and mobile phones.
This position requires a pre-employment background check which will include a Criminal Background Check, Employment Verification, and Motor Vehicle Record. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of these items.

The Colorado Department of Human Services is statutorily responsible for Colorado Emergency Support Function (ESF) #6, based on the State Emergency Operations Plan. The ESF #6 functions address mass care, emergency assistance, housing, and human services. When an emergency or disaster is declared all DHS employees may be required to perform job duties associated with these ESF #6 requirements.
